The availability of anti age products for men is really not all that new. In 1964Estee Lauder launched Aramis, a selection of men's toiletries and in 1976 Clinique was the first to develop a full line of just for men grooming products. The Clinique line now offers concealer and bronzer just for men and more and more companies are jumping on board with awareness building anti age for men campaigns.

It's no secret that society allows men to age far more gracefully than women. I think it was Jane Fonda that said "Woman are not forgiven for aging. Robert Redford's lines of distinction are my old-age wrinkles."

I want to change my skin!

Working from home with a toddler is a lesson in balance and time management. The idea of working from home in your pj's must sound like heaven to someone spending hours a day in traffic. But after a few years of working strictly in the home, I soon found myself caught somewhere between working in cyber space and cafe space. These new face to face meetings were stressing me out. I loved getting out of the house but I couldn't quite get it together. How To Shrink the Size of Pores

I have some bad news... the truth is you can't. That's why a lot of products say they can minimize the "look" of pores. Pores are basically hair follicles that when working normally secrete the right amount of oil to naturally lubricate your skin.

What can cause pores to not act normally?

environment
stress
cosmetics
medication
hormone fluctuations

Although the size of your pores are based on genetics, the appearance of large pores may simply be caused by trapped oil, skin cells and "dirt". Because every pore has pimple potential this may lead to acne breakouts.

The best way to "minimize" the look of pores is to keep them them clean. Exfoliate daily with a product that will gently remove the dead skin cells and access oils. Sulfur is a great ingredient that will help unclog pores and reduce redness. Using a toner with azelaic acid will help reduce swelling and you'll want to follow up with an appropriate moisturizer to help hydrate.

DO NOT for any reason pick or squeeze your pores... although tempting it can lead to infections or scarring.

Sun Damage is an Enormous Skincare Problem

When it comes to sun damage it’s NOT what you see that is causing your skin to look dull and aged. Dull skin, lines, wrinkles and sagginess are not solely caused by the passage of time. In fact it is estimated that 90% of the signs of aging are actually caused by the sun! Since sun damage results from everyday UV exposure it affects almost everyone!

Let’s shine a little light on UV rays.

Have you ever wondered why you don’t really burn when using a tanning bed? Tanning beds typically use UVA rays as oppose to the UVB rays associated with the redness we see in our skin after a day at the beach. The sun emits both UVA and UVB rays.

So if UVA rays don’t burn are they bad for our skin?

UVA rays are not as strong as UVB rays but they penetrate deep into the layers of skin causing damage not immediately seen to the naked eye. The result from this kind of damage can be explained using a murky pond as an example. The sun shines on a muddy pond and because it contains small particles that absorb and scatter sunlight it makes the pond look murky. In much the same way the skin damage below the surface absorbs the light and makes the skin look dull. In contrast, a clear pond reflects the light giving a translucent appearance as does skin that is clear of dark marks.

A rule of thumb for remembering the UV rays: UVA = Aging and UVB = Burning.

Most of our sun exposure happens before our 18th birthday. Prevention is KEY!
1. Proper use of sunscreen (At least 1 ounce every two hours applied ½ an hour before going outside)
2. Cover ups (Hats and sunglasses. You can buy specially weaved fabrics that offer excellent protection – keep in mind that a regular t-shirt offers about 10 SPF dry!)
3. Avoiding sun during mid day (not always easy, but this is when the sun is the strongest)
